My Bio

Richard

Hi there!

My name is Richard and I’m a second year medical student at the University of Alberta. I was born and raised in Edmonton and recently graduated with a BSc Honors in Pharmacology from the UofA amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. I have a passion for research and went through my degree thinking that’s what I would do as my career! However, I realized medicine would allow me to do clinical research and apply science to directly improve the lives of others. I have extensive coaching and leadership experience through my extracurricular activities. I have coached skiing at a national level for the past 4 years and work as a shift leader in the Canadian Ski Patrol. I also used to play piano competitively but now use my skills to make a positive impact in my community such as by playing at various retirement homes. Ultimately, I love working with others and want to empower others to meet their goals.

What was special about my medical school admissions journey was that I have applied before, and during the pandemic, as well as having interviewed both in person and virtually. I was also fortunate enough to interview at many universities across Canada allowing me to have experienced many interview formats such as the MMI, panel, and everything in-between! It can be overwhelming preparing for virtual interviews or knowing how to tailor your application to your experiences during this unprecedented pandemic. With my experience, I’ll be able to provide some insight and tips to navigate these challenges of the application and interview. Additionally, I have been immersed heavily in research and been part of peer-reviewed scientific publications which allowed me to interview for multiple combined MD/PhD programs across Canada.  This allows me to support you if you are thinking to pursue research and medicine!

I want you to get the most out of our sessions, whether it be CASPer preparation, written application advice, or interview practice. I can’t wait to help you shine in front of the medical school admissions committees. My schedule is variable and may not fully match my booking calendar. However, I'm flexible! Please email me or send me a message with any questions and to arrange a time for a session.

Richard is a very kind and honest coach and is a pleasure to work with. He had MMI questions prepared and sent me follow up info as well. It was really helpful to hear from someone with interview experience at UofA and I would highly recommend him!
