A bit about myself:

I am currently a 2nd year medical student at McGill and this is my 2nd year coaching for MedCoach. I completed my Bachelor of Medical Science degree with an Honours Specialization in Pathology and Toxicology at the University of Western Ontario. I had the opportunity to participate in various leadership opportunities while I was at Western. I also worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters as a part of one of their school-based programs. I have experience volunteering in a hospital, working closely with orthopedic surgeons and technicians. Currently in my spare time, I am trying to learn how to play hockey and snowboard, and I love yoga and cardio kickbox!

The reason why I decided to be a part of MedCoach is because when I was applying for medical school, I had to opportunity to speak with a medical student and did a mock interview with him. This person whom I didn’t even know gave me an hour of his time and provided me with so much information, confidence and reassurance that I wasn’t nervous for my interviews anymore! This experience made me want to assist other pre-med students in their journey and share my knowledge.

Application experience:

I applied to McGill medicine as an out-of-province student (originally from Toronto, ON). I applied for medical school during my last year of undergrad and was able to gain acceptance on my 1st attempt. I applied all over Canada (except Memorial University, NOSM, and University of Manitoba) and was accepted by the University of Western Ontario, McMaster, McGill, and wait-listed by Ottawa U. I only interviewed at these 4 schools but was also accepted for an interview at the University of Saskatchewan which I did not attend.

  5. I practiced traditional and MD/PhD questions with Kelly. She offered many insights into how I can better formulate my answer. She knows how to get to the point so that the answer is specific and concise. She’d always ask what I want to work on, which is nice, but sometimes I’d rather that she lead the session. She is definitely knowledgeable of the interviewing process and the right person to practice with. I recommend her!

  7. Kelly C is an amazing person. Instantly, she put me at ease. She’s methodical, empathetic and a good listener. Through her specific and detailed feedback, I have learned to optimize my performance. She even asked me what were my expectations before our appointment by email. That shows her commitment and professionalism.

My suggestion for improvement would be to focus only on one area. To ensure that most of the help will be triggered towards the weakest spot of the candidate. I can’t be more satisfied by my experience with Kelly. I would definitely recommend everyone I know her services for having a successful interview. Kudos to you Kelly!

  8. I am very satisfied with my session. Kelly is very personable, and gives very good feedback regarding behaviour that could be improved upon. She is also very good at explaining how your approach in the mock situation made her feel, as the actor, and if this is something the interviewers would like to see/hear or not. You’re then left with key points to work on after the session. Highly recommended!
