Coach Bio

My name is Nolan. I am a first year medical student at the University of British Columbia (UBC). I completed my undergraduate degree at UBC in Integrated Sciences, a multidisciplinary degree where I focused on Physiology, Immunology, and Biochemistry. I completed my degree in 2017 and had a year off before being accepted to medical school. In my year off I was involved Neurology Clinical Research at BC Children’s Hospital and once I was accepted I took off to travel Europe before medical school started.

My passion for mentoring and teaching developed in the last couple years of university where I was involved in mentoring many indigenous secondary and post-secondary students on how to get involved in research and apply for grants. I rarely turn down an opportunity to help out someone achieve their goals. When I was first year of university I had another third year pre-medical school student take hours out of his schedule to help me take on the enduring journey to medical school. I felt very grateful and appreciative. Much like my mentor, I have a goal of providing help to other students, who were once in my shoes, to help them reach their goal of being accepted to medical school.

Outside of my academic life, I keep up with my love for hockey by playing in a recreational league at UBC. I enjoy anything that gets me on my feet and activity, whether it is going to the gym, playing spike ball, or getting up to the beautiful BC mountains to snowboard.

  1. I am very glad to have found Nolan for my MMI prep! He really gave me a sense of direction in the way I should approach the interview and how to prepare for it. I really appreciate that he was able to share some of his own valuable experiences. During our first session, we went over a wealth of information: from tips on answering the different types of questions to the mannerisms that one should have to make a good impression. We went over a few MMI questions and his feedback was very thorough and helpful. Nolan is a very approachable coach and I look forward to having more prep sessions with him!

  3. I’ve had MMI coaching sessions with multiple coaches, but my time with Nolan has been, by far, the most valuable. He was very knowledgeable about acing the MMIs, and gave lots of advice about how to be calm, confident, and well-prepared. He is approachable, friendly, and clearly set on helping applicants succeed. I would absolutely recommend Nolan to anyone looking to get into medical school. You won’t be disappointed!
