My Bio
I'm Cathy, a senior medical student at Western University. My path to medical school wasn't exactly straightforward, and I joined MedCoach to try and help others who may find themselves in similar situations.
The first year I applied for medical school was the year I was completing my Bachelor's degree. While I was fortunate enough to get 1 interview offer from the University of Saskatchewan, I had a poor understanding of the MMI and was very much unprepared despite attending a few MMI prep group meetings with other students. Unsurprisingly, I did not receive an acceptance. As medical school had been my goal for much of my undergraduate degree, now that I had failed to be accepted, I was at a loss and wasn't quite sure where to go from here.
While it did take some time, I was able to move forward and began a role in academic advising at my alma mater. This job broadened my horizons, and provided me with significantly more experience in utilizing interpersonal skills in a professional setting. While I loved my job, I couldn't let go of pursuing medicine. I the time to really break down and polish both my written applications and interview skills with the support of my friends, family, and professional colleagues, and applied again.
For my 2nd round of applications, I was offered interviews at the University of Ottawa, McMaster University, and Western University. I prepared extensively for both MMI and traditional panel interviews, and received acceptances to McMaster as well as Western.
Since joining MedCoach, I've used my application writing, CASPer writing, interview, and advising experience to help applicants with their unique challenges in the application and interview process. Everybody's path is a little different, and I'd be happy to help you with a little part of yours!
